XINYI LIU
Xinyi Liu is a London-based artist working across photography, painting, and mixed media, using process-led
methods to examine identity, perception, and belonging as social and political conditions. Her practice treats
the image as a mutable site—negatives are burned, surfaces imprinted, pigments layered, and textures built
—so that representation becomes a form of inquiry into how bodies are seen, disciplined, and remembered.
Grounded in a feminist lens, Liu’s work investigates female subjectivity and power in contemporary life:
intimacy as a structure shaped by control and self-preservation, visibility as a contested space, and emotion
as both private experience and social history. Nature functions as a conceptual instrument for thinking time,
loss, and transformation, allowing the body’s experience to be articulated through cycles of disappearance
and return.
