XINYI LIU
Xinyi Liu is a London-based artist and photographer whose work explores the delicate threshold between
inner experience and the external world. She holds an MLitt in Fine Art Practice from The Glasgow School
of Art and a BA in Digital Media Art from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts. Rooted in Buddhist philosophy and
embodied inquiry, her practice uses photography and moving image as meditative tools—acts of attention
that open space for vulnerability, transition, and connection.
Born in China and trained in both digital media and fine art photography, Liu combines traditional analogue
techniques with experimental narrative structures. Her images are often quiet and spare, composed with a
deep sensitivity to relationship, atmosphere, memory, and the unseen emotional currents that shape human
presence. Drawing inspiration from Park Chan-wook, Liu approaches the camera as a portal—one that can
access altered states of perception and non-verbal meaning.
Having exhibited in New York, London, and across China, Liu’s practice is deeply collaborative. She has
worked with queer ballroom performers, creating visual rituals grounded in mutual trust and bodily presence.
Whether through staged imagery or intuitive documentary work, Liu’s lens seeks a moment of resonance
—where the self becomes porous, and the world speaks back.
